What is Profhilo?

Also known as 逆時針, Profhilo is an anti-ageing bio-remodelling Hyaluronic Acid injectable that addresses dehydrated, dull and wrinkly skin on the face, neck and body. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is found naturally in our skin and retains water to keep the skin hydrated and supple. It is a commonly used skincare ingredient to moisturise the skin, and is also the key component of dermal fillers and skinboosters, where it serves to plump up and hydrate the skin after being injected. Profhilo is developed by IBSA (Europe) and is approved worldwide. Each 2ml syringe of Profhilo contains 64mg/2ml of HA- the highest concentration of HA in an aesthetic injectable. Over 2 million Profhilo treatments have been performed.

How does Profhilo work?

Injected at 5 Bio-Aesthetic Points per side, Profhilo spreads throughout the skin of the face and neck, drawing in water to hydrate and lift. Bio-remodelling occurs within 2-4 weeks, with new Collagen and Elastin being produced. Patented NAHYCO technology is used to thermally stabilise high—and low-molecular-weight HA into a Hybrid Cooperative Complex without the use of chemical additives.

Why choose Profhilo?

Profhilo has a significantly higher concentration of HA (64mg/2mls) compared to other skinboosters (typically 20mg/ml). Fewer injection points are required (5 per side only)- which results in a less painful and quicker treatment. Profhilo is stabilised through a proprietary method free of chemical additives (e.g. BDDE), which reduces the likelihood of adverse reactions or allergies.

Is Profhilo a skin booster or filler?

Like traditional skinboosters and fillers, Profhilo contains Hyaluronic acid (HA), a bio-compatible active ingredient that acts as a potent skin hydrator. Due to the design and manufacturing process of HA, Profhilo is neither a filler nor a skinbooster, acting more as a skin bio-remodelling treatment- boosting the level of hydration, collagen and elastin in the skin.

Composition and technology

• Profhilo is composed of 100% pure hyaluronic acid (HA) in a proprietary hybrid complex of:
  • 32 mg high molecular weight (H-HA) (1133 ± 25 kDa)
  • 32 mg low molecular weight (L-HA) (80 ± 5 kDa)
  • In a 2 ml syringe, resulting in 64 mg of HA, one of the highest concentrations in any HA-based injectable.

• The proprietary NAHYCO technology thermally stabilises the two HA chains without using chemical cross-linking agents such as BDDE (1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether), which are commonly used in dermal fillers.
  • L-HA provides intense hydration by diffusing across the tissue.
  • H-HA forms a supportive 3D scaffold for skin architecture and cell signalling.
  • This dual action supports cell migration, wound healing, fibroblast stimulation, and extracellular matrix remodelling, which is why Profhilo is classified as a bioremodelling injectable, not a filler.

Mechanism of action

After injection, Profhilo spreads widely within the subcutaneous and deep dermis via tissue diffusion, with no need for massage or filler sculpting. Once injected, it initiates several cellular processes such as stimulating fibroblasts, keratinocytes, and adipocytes. This biological cascade leads to improved skin elasticity, reduced sagging, and a visible "plumping" of the skin, without adding artificial volume.

Injection technique for face

• Uses the BAP (Bio Aesthetic Points) protocol: 5 injection sites per side of the face (total 10 points)

• 0.2 mL per site (total 2ml), into the deep dermis

Injection technique for the neck

• 5 injection sites per side along the anterior and lateral neck (total 10 points)

Downtime is minimal

• Very few injection points are needed as compared to traditional skin boosters, which means minimal trauma and downtime

Is Profhilo safe?

Profhilo is safe and well tolerated for several reasons:

• No chemical cross-linkers (e.g. BDDE), which reduces inflammatory reactions
• Isotonic, highly purified HA — bioidentical to endogenous HA found in your body
• High tissue diffusion and low risk of nodules or vascular occlusion

Possible side effects:

• Transient swelling or erythema at injection points
• Bruising (rare)
• Lumps at injection sites are rare and typically resolve spontaneously
  

Contraindications

• Pregnancy or breastfeeding
• Active infection or inflammatory skin condition at the injection site

Profhilo treatment tips for success

Combine Profhilo treatments with picosure Laser, RF microneedling,  or Oligio RF for synergistic rejuvenation: 

• Avoid injecting Profhilo into high-movement dynamic areas (e.g. periorbital or perioral areas directly) as it is meant to spread widely through the dermis; this spread can be unpredictable and can pool and migrate in dynamic areas, leading to lumpiness/swelling/uneven texture
• Avoid injecting Profhilo too close to the tear trough as the area is thin-skinned, poorly supported by fat and muscle, and rich in lymphatic vessels. HA can pull in water, causing fluid accumulation and puffiness. It can disrupt the lymphatic drainage, causing persistent swelling

Profhilo VS skin boosters

• While skin boosters (e.g. Teosyal Redensity, Juvederm Skinvive, Restylane Vital Light) are composed of non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid (HA) molecules, Profhilo contains a patented combination of high and low molecular weight HA, stabilised using a proprietary thermal technology.
