A glycolic acid peel is a superficial to medium-depth chemical peel that uses glycolic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA), to exfoliate the skin. This process helps to remove dead skin cells, reveal brighter skin, and improve texture and tone. Glycolic acid peels are commonly used to address issues like acne, acne scars, uneven skin tone, and fine lines.
Glycolic acid, derived from sugarcane, has a small molecular size, allowing it to penetrate the skin effectively. It weakens the bonds between dead skin cells, causing them to slough off, revealing fresher skin underneath. The process also stimulates collagen production, which can improve skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Benefits of glycolic acid chemical peels (20-35%):
Glycolic acid is generally considered safe and beneficial for most skin types, including oily, acne-prone, and normal skin. However, those with sensitive skin or rosacea may experience irritation and should proceed with caution. Glycolic acid peels are safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding, and can be used to treat teenagers and adults.
During a chemical peel with a doctor, expect a process that begins with thorough skin cleansing followed by the application of a customised chemical peel solution (Glycolic acid 20-35%), which may cause tingling, warmth, or a slight burning sensation. After a set time, the solution is neutralised and removed, leaving the skin feeling refreshed.
Depending on the type of peel, you may experience redness, scaling, or peeling for 2-5 days.
Your doctor will provide specific instructions on how to care for your skin during recovery, including recovery skincare, moisturising and avoiding sun exposure.
BBL HERO is another popular treatment for skin rejuvenation and acne, using broadband light energy to refresh skin and fade acne marks
Hydrafacial utilises medical-grade hydradermabrasion that follows a three-step protocol to cleanse, extract then infuse the skin with proprietary antioxidant-rich serums.
The full effects of Chemical Peel treatment are seen 1-2 weeks after treatments. Expect natural, subtle results- this will not change your appearance much. After the initial 3-4 treatments, it is recommended to perform Chemical Peel treatments every 2-3 months to maintain the results. Due to healthcare advertising regulations, before and after photos of patients cannot be displayed publicly, but will be shown during the consultation. To see our portfolio of cases, contact us.
