Dermal fillers are injectable gels containing biocompatible crosslinked Hyaluronic acid. Common filler treatment areas include- forehead, temple, undereye, cheeks, nasolabial folds (laugh lines), lips, chin, jawline and nose.
Strategically and accurately injected, fillers are able to sculpt, lift and volumize the face, restoring facial volume that has been lost to the aging process. Fillers also provide structural support to the face to lift up sagging skin, known as a “liquid facelift”. Filler treatment is as much an art as it is a science- a skilled and experienced injector with a good knowledge of anatomy and a keen eye for beauty can restore and enhance a client’s natural beauty and create a “WOW!” result.
With age and weight loss, the facial volume of the forehead and temple decreases, leading to a “sunken” and “hollow” look. With less structural support from the forehead and temple, the eyebrows, upper eyelids and cheeks also start to sag. Temple and forehead fillers provide volume and structural support, resulting in a more youthful appearance and a gentle lift to the eyebrows, upper eyelids and cheeks. As the skin is thinner at the forehead and temple, careful injection technique is required to avoid nodules and unevenness.
Undereye fillers are commonly requested to treat tear trough deformity, eye bags and dark eye circles. By restoring volume in the undereye, the sunken and hollow appearance of the tear troughs can be improved, eye bags can be reduced and dark eye circles corrected. The anatomy of the undereye is complex and lymphatic drainage is poor, hence this area is prone to developing filler migration and tyndall effect- which is when HA fillers in the undereye swell up and migrate superficially, resulting in a puffy and bluish discoloration of the undereye. Deusaderm purified collagen is our go to product for treatment of the delicate undereye area as it does not draw in water or swell up, hence there is no possibility of developing the unnatural looking results. For patients with poorly done undereye HA fillers who come for correction, we dissolve the HA filler with Hyaluronidase first wait a week for the swelling to come down before treating the area with Deusaderm collagen
Deusaderm purified collagen is our preferred product for treatment of the delicate undereye area, with immediate improvement of tear trough, dark eye circles and eye bags
Nose fillers aka non surgical rhinoplasty (nose job) or “liquid rhinoplasty” is a treatment to improve the cosmetic appearance of the nose. Nose fillers can address a low nose bridge, bulbous and poorly defined nose tip and mild asymmetry. The blood supply of the nose is linked to the eye, nose fillers carry a possibility of filler induced blindness. Nose fillers are high risk and complex procedures that should only be performed by experienced injectors. In certain cases, a surgical rhinoplasty may be more appropriate.
As part of the natural ageing process, the cheeks lose volume and sag, leading to flattened cheeks and deep nasolabial folds. Cheek and nasolabial (laugh line) fillers augment the cheekbones to restore a more youthful appearance. Cheek fillers provide volume and a gentle lift to the mid face. However, it is important not to overdo things so as to avoid a overfilled “pillow face” look aka overfilled face syndrome.
Lip fillers are more popular than ever, driven by social media and celebrities flaunting their full, voluptuous lips. Lip fillers are both an art and a science, with what is considered attractive varying based on culture and ethnicity. While some people “like it big”, locally most patients are opting for a natural, subtle enhancement. With lip fillers a little goes a long way, dramatic results are possible with even 1 syringe of filler. To reduce swelling and achieve natural results, lip fillers are best done over 2 sessions (0.5-0.7cc injected first session, then the remainder used for touch up in 1-2 weeks).
Chin and jawline fillers can help clients achieve a slimmer V shaped face as well as a defined and sculpted side profile. Asian faces tend to be broad and round, with short and underdeveloped jawbones (retrognathia) and overdeveloped jaw muscles (masseter). Hence, chin and jawline fillers are often performed in combination with masseter botox

Over 20 types of fillers from the leading HSA approved brands (Juvederm, Restylane, Teosyal, Belotero) are kept in stock to offer clients a choice. A Filler treatment takes 30-45 minutes. Topical anaesthetic will be applied beforehand for 15-20 minutes.
No downtime and clients can return to normal activity right away. There will be mild swelling at injection areas which resolve within 2-3 days.
The visible effects of fillers typically last 9-18 months, depending on several factors such as the metabolism of the client, volume of filler injected and area treated. Thereafter, repeat treatments are recommended to maintain the effect.
This depends on the client and will be discussed during the consultation, with factors such as treatment areas, treatment expectations and budget being taken into consideration and a treatment plan agreed upon.
Expect mild swelling and redness after injection. Needle marks and small bruises typically resolve within days. Clients can apply light makeup and resume normal activity right away
Inform doctor of any medications and supplements you are currently taking, especially blood thinners, antibiotics or steroids. Supplements such as fish oil, vitamin E, gingko are associated with increased bruising after injections and should be stopped 3-5 days prior.
Common adverse outcomes after fillers include: swelling (immediate or delayed), lumps, migration
Rare but serious risks include- infection, granulomas, vascular occlusions causing blindness or skin necrosis
HA fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase
Choosing a clinic and doctor for fillers:
Fillers carry potential risks and you should only approach experienced doctors who perform a high volume of filler cases. Knowledge of anatomy, steady hands and a sensible treatment plan are other key factors that lead to good and safe outcomes. A keen eye for beauty matters, ask to see the doctor or clinic's portfolio of cases to ensure that everyone is on the same page.
Dr Bernard Tan and Dr Hoe Ying Min are both experienced filler injectors, having over 20 years of combined experience and thousands of successful cases. A "less is more" treatment philosophy is adopted that aims for natural looking results- no puffy pillow faces please!
