What is Forever Young BBL?

Forever Young BBL is a non-invasive, no-downtime pulsed light therapy treatment that utilises Sciton broadband light (BBL) technology to improve skin tone, texture, and reduce the appearance of ageing and sun damage. Sciton BBL HERO (2020) vs BBL Classic (2004)

The legacy Sciton BBL was launched in 2004 and was well received worldwide, setting the standard for pulsed light technology treatments. Building upon the “Classic” Sciton BBL, came the BBL HERO (Broad Band Light High Energy Rapid Output), which featured a faster firing rate, 4Hz (vs 1Hz), allowing for smooth movement with continuous firing. The upgrade allowed for better treatment coverage, less risk of burns and was more comfortable. Other features of the BBL HERO include a contact cooling sapphire crystal (10degrees Celsius), multiple adapters- Full (15x45mm), Square (15x15mm), circle (11 or 13mm) and quick change filters- 420nm, 515nm, 560nm, 590nm (ST), 640nnm, 695nm (ST), 800 nm(ST).

The Science of Forever Young BBL

There are many lasers and medical aesthetic devices making bold claims, but few have actual clinical studies and science to back them up. Sciton BBL HERO has multiple published clinical studies to support the assertion that it can rejuvenate skin cells and reverse visible signs of ageing. The landmark study is known as the “Stanford study”, titled “Rejuvenation of gene expression pattern of aged human skin by broadband light treatment”, and published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology in 2013. In this study, 10 women aged 50 (treatment group) underwent 3 sessions of Forever Young BBL. Another 10 women aged 50 (aged control group) did not receive any treatment. Lastly, a third group of 10 women aged 30 were used as the young control group. After 3 treatments of Forever Young BBL, skin samples were taken from the women and the gene expression of skin cells was analysed, showing that the gene expression profile of aged skin treated with BBL reverted to become more similar to young skin. In summary, 3 treatments of Forever Young BBL to the skin of older women caused the skin cells to start to behave like young skin cells again!

The results from the Stanford study were corroborated by a clinical study where patients receiving regular treatment with Forever Young BBL appeared to age much more slowly than their peers and look much younger than their actual age (as judged by 3^rd party observers). Published by Dr Patrick Bitter and Dr Jason Pozner, their study titled “Retrospective Evaluation of Long-term Antiaging Effects of Broad Band Light Therapy” followed up with their actual patients who underwent regular Forever Young BBL treatments 2-3 times per year over a 5-10 year period. Photographs of these patients before and after treatments were shown to observers (medical professionals) who were asked to estimate the age of the individual. At the start of the study, the average age of the patients was 45 years old and the estimated age was 46 years. At the end of the study, the average age of the patients was 55 years old, but the estimated age was 45 years old! Essentially, these patients looked 10 years younger than their actual age, just by doing regular Forever Young BBL treatments!
